What’s new for Autumn/Winter 2024-25?

One of the many reasons I love being a stylist is the continual excitement I feel when a new season arrives, especially autumn/winter. Designers showcase their stunning collections; models bring them to life and the high-street interprets the looks in a more realistic and affordable way.

However, it is so easy to get drawn into new fashion trends and lose sight of your personal style. The purpose of this Style Post is not to encourage you to buy an entirely new season wardrobe or purchase the ‘must have’ fashion item that will soon be replaced by another. It is about: assessing what you have; seeing what excites and inspires you; investing in the trend you love; and enjoying how it impacts your individual style.

Sermon over, here is Part 1 of my Trend Report for the season. These are classic trends that designers have reinvented to give them a modern twist. Enjoy!

Double Denim : Catwalk Inspiration

In all my years as a stylist, denim has had a firm place at runway shows. Autumn 2024 is no exception. However, this season ‘more is more’! Pairing double denim by way of shirts and skirts, tailored tops and trousers and fluid trench coats is the latest twist.

If you are keen to give this trend a try, the easiest way to do it is with a dress or jumpsuit as the styling is done for you. Whilst on the subject of denim, I’m often asked if slim and skinny jeans are still on trend – “Yes”. Find the jean shape that looks incredible on you (or call me and I will!), whether that is wide, palazzo, boyfriend, straight, slim, barrel or skinny and enjoy how they make you feel. Wear the style you love and don’t become a slave to trends, or you’ll never truly find your personal style.

Luxurious Leather : Catwalk Inspiration

It might not be the most surprising trend for autumn/winter, but it is ever lasting. From shirts and skirts to dresses and trousers to jackets and coats, leather dominated across all four fashion capitals. There was a strong focus on colour, too. Whilst black leather will never be "out", it seems that chocolate brown, merlot, tan and green are very much "in".

Luxurious Leather : High-street Interpretation

The quality of high-street leather and faux leather has come a long way. Whilst it is still an investment buy, it will remain a wardrobe staple for years to come. The reason why? Because of its durability and versatility. It looks stunning with all textures including silk, cotton, tweed, knitwear and denim – price per wear people, price per wear!

Cool Cardigans : Catwalk Inspiration

I must admit, I own very few cardigans. I have yet to find one that makes me feel ‘cool’ but seeing such beautiful collections has tempted me to continue my search. Cardigans of all styles were showcased from classic bouclé numbers at Chanel, more relaxed styles at Ferragamo through to neat preppy styles at Gucci. Worn layered, belted, or as a matching set – there’s a style to suit all tastes, even mine!

Next week I will be back continuing more colour inspiration from last week’s post together with coats, boots and prints - I cannot wait to share them with you. Until then, enjoy reacquainting yourself with your autumn wardrobe and giving some thought to what you may need. And remember, if you would like to join me on Thursday 26th September – you know where to find me. It would be a joy to see you.

You're very welcome

Maggie Killick

Have a great week-end and feel free to share this post.
