The shops are open…The sales are on
The world is divided between those who love trawling through the sales, and those who avoid sale shopping at all costs. However, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love a true bargain. The trick is knowing a “true” bargain. For me, it’s that beautiful piece that is out of my price-range, the piece I have fallen in love with but cannot justify the price tag – and then I spot it at 50% off. Love that!
Before I give you a selection of just some of the pieces I’ve seen, some words of advice when sale shopping:
- Don’t buy anything you don’t love
We’ve all done it, purchased items simply because they’re on sale. Whilst the temptation to grab a bargain may be huge, think hard about whether you would buy the item if it was full price. If not, step away and save your money to spend on a new season piece. - Buy items that work with your current wardrobe
If you can’t see yourself wearing the item with at least 3 pieces in your wardrobe, ask yourself how versatile it’ll be. The most stylish women I know constantly re-work their wardrobes. - Look at designer brands you may have thought too expensive
Designer items you may feel are out of your price range become more attainable at this time of year. Rather than 10% – 20% discounts, many designers offer up to 70% discount for quality items you’ll love. - Keep in mind what is missing or needs replacing in your wardrobe
Is your wardrobe in need of a fabulous new pair of jeans, a gorgeous cashmere jumper or a great leather handbag? The key to successful sale shopping is to stay focused and disciplined. - Look for ‘off season’ pieces.
I know it seems strange shopping in summer for cashmere, coats, boots etc. but you can find some amazing autumn/winter pieces in summer. It may feel weird now, but, trust me, you’ll be so glad you did.
Ok sermon over…now to what I’ve seen and loved. At the time of writing this Style Post – all pieces were available in most sizes.
The Perfect Tan Accessory
I love the Demellier range and this beautiful cross-body bag is one of my favourites. The ‘ Venice’ style comes in a variety of colours and sizes (only some on sale). This tan colour is a fabulous choice – perfect for spring/summer with fresh white, denim or a black summer dress and equally stunning with autumn/winter shades of burgundy, grey and chocolate brown.
Oh, and if you need more incentive to treat yourself, with every item sold DeMellier funds lifesaving vaccines and medical treatments aimed to save the life of a child in need. What are you waiting for?
The Wardrobe Staple
Every woman needs a great leather jacket in their wardrobe. Again, whilst the sun is shining you may not be thinking about leather but trust me – you’ll thank me when the weather turns. Massimo Dutti’s leather is fabulous quality and this version has a detachable collar and beautiful finishings which is a tell-tale sign of a quality piece.
Cos is one of my favourite high-street brands. Their price point is excellent anyway, but when it comes to their summer sales, it’s the perfect time to stock up on their beautiful cotton pieces. Obviously, this white shirt is a firm favourite of mine – beautiful with boyfriend jeans or shorts – equally great with cigarette trousers and heels for evening.
Buy Now….Wear Later
Ok, I know the thought of trying this on now will bring you out in a sweat, but just imagine when the weather changes, popping on this beautiful, oversized shearling coat. Whether you team it with jeans and a roll-neck or beautiful wide leg trousers – oh the joy!
The Beautiful Metallic Sandal
I love a silver pair of shoes, especially dressed down with denim. Often you find “dressy” shoes on sale, particularly in gold or silver. These block heels from Whistles are gorgeous – great heel height, super comfortable and fabulous with white summer dresses too. They also come in black suede if you’re not a metallic fan. They will sell out fast so be quick!
The 'grown-up' Print Dress
Whilst I’m not overly keen on a ‘ditzy print’ floral – I do love a 'statement print' summer dress. This version from Mint Velvet is fabulous worn with espadrilles or belted with some sliders. I would tend to wear this slightly oversized for a drapey, cool look.
Remember, many brands go into sale at different times so always sign up to the websites you love so you get to know their specific sale times.
If nothing is tempting you in the sales, hold out for something you truly love. For me, it’s a piece of George Jenson Jewellery - obsessed!
Have a great week-end and feel free to share this post.
