The impact of fabulous jewellery – whatever your style
During the last few months, I have been helping new clients ( a warm welcome to the Style Post) find their true style: a style that nudges them out of their comfort zone and allows them to see their potential to look cooler, edgier and more fabulous. It is the part of my job I enjoy most: seeing the penny drop, watching someone’s body language change and knowing they now see themselves in a more positive way.
During my style consultations with them, I often ask about their jewellery style. I have noticed many women consider jewellery an afterthought either because they don’t know what suits them or they feel it is too faffy to wear day-to-day. For this reason, I am dedicating this post to sharing jewellery advice - I hope you enjoy it.
Emotional Attachment
Wearing a piece of jewellery with a strong emotional attachment will always make you feel good. Since my Dad passed away, I wear this charm pendant every day. It was the last Christmas gift I received from him a month before he died. It brings me comfort; it gives me confidence when I feel out of my depth; and it fills me with joy – all 3 things my Dad gave me throughout my life.
The Art of Layering
Layering necklaces of different lengths is a great way to add depth and dimension. You can achieve this with different styles of necklaces and different brands which will make it unique to you; or choose a brand that creates it for you. Either way this chain length guide by Missoma (a brand I love) is incredibly useful. Also remember, odd numbers will always look better than even. I’m a 3-bangle girl in case you’re interested!
Mixing Metals
For many people, skin-tone will dictate whether they opt for gold or silver (ie. cool skin-tones tend to suit silver whilst warmer skin tones suit gold). However, I am a huge fan of mixing metals and playing with textures and designs. Again, you can create this yourself but there are fabulous brands offering a mixture of gold and silver combinations. Why not give it a try?
Statement Pieces and Proportions
If you are wearing a statement necklace avoid ‘teaming’ (yes ‘teaming’) with statement earrings and vis versa. Let one of them do the talking! Also give some thought to jewellery proportions. If you have a short neck (like me) longer chains will be far more flattering than chunky chocker styles. Equally, slimmer bangles will look better on thicker wrists as opposed to large cuff bracelets. Once you know this, choosing jewellery becomes so much easier.
I hope this inspires you to take a fresh look at your jewellery collection and play around with it. The right jewellery can give the simplest outfit a unique twist – and who doesn’t love that?
You're very welcome
Have a great week-end and feel free to share this post.
