The Easter Break…Time to do the things you love
I love Easter: the 4 day break, the Spring weather (here’s hoping), seeing friends and family and don’t get me started on the chocolate! The problem is we want to cram everyone and everything into the break and then it all becomes a bit manic. So, in amongst catching up with people I never see enough of, here’s what I’m planning.
To read: Inside Vogue by Alexandra Shulman
Last week I had the pleasure of meeting Alexandra Shulman who has been Editor-in-Chief of Vogue for 25 years. She was being interviewed by her good friend Nicky Haslam . It was a joy to listen to the pair of them: each supremely talented, deadpan funny, warm and friendly. Despite the glamorous circles they mix within, here were two mates talking fondly about their first meeting, hosting parties, meeting celebrities, and Alexandra’s decision to leave Vogue in September after 25 years at the helm.
Her latest book Inside Vogue – A Diary of my 100th year is an open account of the events leading up to the magazine’s 100th year. It’s a real ‘fashion-meets-normal’ account of her life. As she says “it’s odd that one minute you’re doing something ostensibly glamorous and yet, like everyone else, you have your normal domestic life going on”. She believes, and I completely agree, people aren’t interested in people living the perfect existence – they want the reality. I cannot wait to read it.
To buy: Oversized sunglasses
They can make you look and feel instantly glamorous and add a bit of drama to any outfit from simple t-shirt and chinos to a little black number. J Crew has a fantastic selection - ‘Betty’ being a firm favourite of mine.
To wear: boyfriend jeans
I love the loose, cool look boyfriend jeans give you. I wear mine most week-ends with a white t-shirt and statement red shoes. If boyfriend jeans are too baggy for you – try ‘girlfriend’ – still ultra-cool just slightly less relaxed!
To eat: hot cross buns & chocolate
Because life’s too short and I’ll be wearing my boyfriend jeans!
However you spend your Easter break, I hope you get some time to do the things you enjoy.
Happy Easter.
