Products, Podcasts, Clothing…to help you through
Well, we’ve made it to the end of week 4. I’m sure, like me, you’ve had good days, bad days and mad days. Everyone says we will learn huge lessons from our time. I’m sure we will, although mine may not include (as I initially thought) Spanish, Yoga and cooking! I do, however, continue to appreciate certain ‘small things’ that now bring me far more joy than ever before. I’m sharing them in this Post in the hope they may do the same for you.
Indulgent Bath Products
I’ve always preferred baths to showers. Maybe it’s something to do with not wanting to wash my hair every day (thank god for dry shampoo)! Since lockdown began, I’ve brought out all my luxurious bath products (particularly the expensive gifts of oils and candles) and use them regularly – rather than on special occasions. I cannot believe the difference they make to my mood. What products do you have tucked away? Re-arrange your bathroom shelves and start pampering yourself with your own favourites.
Feel Good Podcasts
I love a good podcast. I usually listen to them on my commute to London or on car journeys. Now I’ve taken to listening to them when out for a daily walk or whilst cleaning the flat. I’m loving them so much more now, with less distraction. Here are my 3 favourites:
I’m a huge fan of Elizabeth Day – I’ve read her books, seen her live and am a regular listener of her 'How to Fail' podcast. She is now producing special episodes to deal with this difficult time. Mo Gawdat’s episode (69) is brilliant for anyone coping with anxiety – the man is a genius.
Fortunately, with Fi Glover and Jane Garvey is a hoot. I love these women – bright, honest and VERY funny. They have some great guests but to be honest - they don’t need them – just listening to their banter is a joy and a testament to true friendship.
Thanks a Million, with Angela Scanlon is always an uplifting treat. She chats to great guests about what they are most thankful for, including the ‘thanks that got away’ which is always one of my favourite parts.
Stylish Zara Homewear
Whilst I’m all about getting up and dressed for the day, I am loving these polka dot satin trousers for lounging around in the evenings. They can be found on the Zara Home website along with many other stylish pieces. I wear mine with a black vest top to look a tad ‘chic’ - although I have no photographic evidence of this - so you’ll just have to trust me!
Friday Night Tipple
On Friday nights (or is it Thursday!) I pour a G&T and sit on the balcony (that I’d previously taken for granted) – never again. I begin by contemplating the week, being alone with my thoughts (very dangerous) and end up rambling on to Killick about all those I love and miss. Anyway, back to the G&T: usually I’m a Tanqueray fan but on our last shop I decided to ring in the changes and I’m now hooked on this rhubarb and ginger beauty from Whitley Neill. Oh, and don’t forget these truffle oil crisps – the perfect accessory!
Hair Saviours
I’ve always known it takes a small village to help me with make-up, hair and beauty treatments but since these experts are all out of reach for now (stay safe you incredible bunch) I’ve resorted to home manicures, pedicures and styling my hair…well, I say styling? Here are just a few hair essentials that have helped me – they may do the same for you.
Have a great week-end and feel free to share this post.
