Maggie in The Mirror…
Many of you have asked for more images of me in outfits I love to wear. Truth is, I’ve never been that comfortable posing for photographs, but I appreciate as a stylist, I need to get over myself! It’s not about me, it’s about the advice I can pass on to you. So, as of this week, I am committing to sharing more photos #maggieinthemirror on the Style Post and on instagram.com/maggie_killick_style .
This got me thinking about how we view ourselves in the mirror and how critical we can be. Here’s a tip I share with my fabulous clients to help them - I hope it inspires you to stop the negative talk and be kinder to yourself. We look far better than we think – we just struggle to see it.
Change how you look at your reflection in the mirror. |
Look at yourself as a whole rather than immediately zooming in on particular areas of your body you dislike. Nobody else views you in this way and neither should you. When you try on an outfit and look in the mirror, ask yourself: Am I in proportion? Have I created balance (top and bottom) in my outfit? Do the proportions work? These are the questions that will help you tweak your outfit to create a great hourglass (balanced) shape. These questions will stop you looking too top-heavy or bottom-heavy, too short and/or too square. It is all about creating symmetry which, trust me, is far more intuitive than you may think. |
My outfit above is 2 years old and still one of my favourites: white shirt (obviously) & black ‘paper bag’ style trousers. If you are looking for similar try these from massimodutti.com; and stories.com
Next week’s Style Post will be dedicated to fabulous wedding outfit inspiration in the hope it stops you panic buying and making expensive mistakes. Until then, have a fabulous Bank Holiday week-end and next time you look in the mirror – remember my advice.
You’re very welcome
Have a great week-end and feel free to share this post.
