Event Dressing Inspiration…
A strange thing happens to the high street at this time of year. Suddenly everything is (a) black, (b) sparkly and (c) figure-hugging. Very often – this isn’t what we need or want. The outfit I turn to at this time of year is a little less ‘bling’ yet still feels special…
It’s my midnight blue velvet trouser suit. In the last month I have worn it for cocktails, a lunch, a dinner party, and a networking event. It’s the gift that keeps on giving!

When I bought this suit, over 5 years ago, there were very few options around. This season, there are plenty. Check out Reiss; Jigsaw; Bella Freud; Matchesfashion and Cos – you’ll be spoilt for choice. And if a full-on trouser suit is not for you, invest in a velvet blazer and see the difference it will make to your wardrobe.
