Do you have the essentials for your Spring/Summer Wardrobe?

Do you have the essentials for your Spring/Summer Wardrobe?

Many of the fabulous women I meet find dressing for summer difficult and I can see why. Summer clothes can be unforgiving, made of cheap fabric and, unless accessorised with glowing, sun-kissed skin, can be tricky to wear! Over the years, I have learnt many things to make summer dressing easier – far too much for one style post. However, the key is to stop assuming you need to go “full-on” high summer. Let’s face it (not to bring you down), but our English summers rarely warrant an extensive wardrobe of flimsy, floating numbers.

Last week-end I spent a couple of hours (honestly it was just a couple) taking stock of what I needed to replace for summer. I say replace because I tend to stick with simple essentials and then accessorise the hell out of them! Those of you who know me know I’m not blessed with a golden skin-tone (unless I visit the James Reed Salon) so generally these essentials tend not to show too much flesh yet are comfortable, cool and stylish.

Here are four items I purchased this bank holiday that I will wear endlessly during summer. I hope they inspire you to review your summer clothing.

Girlfriend Jeans

This is a new style by Gap. I love them because they’re mid-rise, really soft and super flattering. They come in various denim washes and end just on the ankle - great for showing off pretty summer flats or statement heels.

Whether you go for girlfriend, boyfriend, skinny, flared, true straight (shall I continue….?) make sure your jeans look the best they can on you. This is one of the first items I get right for my clients on a personal shop because I know the right jeans can look incredible and are the ultimate staple for your wardrobe.

Pale blue Oxford linen shirt

This linen shirt from Banana Republic is so effortless and sexy (I may go back for the white one too)! I plan on wearing this one with jeans (a darker denim) and tan strappy flats & leather belt. It will also work well with the French blue cigarette trouser suit (from the collection) and statement heels.

Jersey maxi skirt

This style of skirt is so versatile. Team it with a cool linen shirt (belted) or white t-shirt and lots of thin necklaces – easy and effortless.

Tan block heels

Tan is a fantastic neutral. It works beautifully with ‘all white’ outfits, denim and also black. Add a block heel and you add comfort and edginess to your summer wardrobe.

Do you have essentials to make your summer wardrobe effortless, stylish and easy? Summer is too precious to spend worrying about what to wear. Make a start now – it could be your most stylish summer yet.

My Personal shopping dates for April/May are now fully booked. However do get in touch if you would like to make a June booking or you simply want to discuss alternative styling needs. It’s always a pleasure to help.

Enjoy your week and feel free to share this post.
