The spring coat is practical, wearable and effortlessly stylish – do you have one (or several?)

Usually women love one particular item of clothing above all others - for me it’s a great coat. The main reason is it’s the quickest and easiest way to look stylish. If I’m pushed for time I can wear the simplest outfit then throw on a gorgeous coat and I’m sorted.

I’m often surprised at the number of coats women own. I may be generalising but many women I know tend to stick with very few: a mac, a ‘work’ coat and a casual week-end coat (usually a parka). That is until I style them! I recently went through my coat collection (taking out heavy winter ones to make room for spring/summer versions). I have 24. This may seem like a lot (who am I kidding – it is a lot!) but don’t judge me. In my defence, I have had many of them for years (because I only ever buy coats I absolutely love) and the majority are not hugely expensive - in fact many cost the same as a good quality jacket of cardigan.

A great spring coat can quickly transform jeans and a white t-shirt; brighten up an all-one-colour outfit or add a sexy androgynous edge to a feminine dress. Spring coats were huge on the catwalk this season which means you will be spoilt for choice when shopping for yours. Whether you go for a duster style (long-length), ¾ jacket style, sleeveless or trench - a spring coat is a great investment: practical, wearable and effortlessly stylish.

Here are some versions from the high-street. I hope they inspire you to add a great spring coat (or several!) to your wardrobe.

Many of you have been asking if I am adding to the Clothing Line – watch this space - it may well be a beautiful Maggie Killick Style coat.

Have a great week and feel free to share this post.
