An Evening of Style & Inspiration

An Evening of Style & Inspiration

What can clothing do for you? What makes a great wardrobe? What inspires us for Autumn/Winter 2018? These questions and many others were answered at my recent style event at Amanda Wakeley’s Flagship Store. For those of you who were there – thank you for making it a truly fabulous evening. There was such a buzz in the room and thank you to Amanda Wakeley for creating a beautiful collection and for sharing, with us, her thoughts on clothing and style.

I know many of you were unable to secure a place on the night. However, it has all been captured on video. So, sit back, put your feet up, grab a coffee or glass of wine and enjoy viewing it – simply click here.

The message that resonated with so many of you was to “buy less, buy quality and make it work hard”. Many of Amanda’s pieces are investment buys but I can honestly say (and I’m not paid to say this!) that whenever I wear an Amanda Wakeley piece, not only do I feel incredible but I also get many compliments on the outfit and my figure. The reason: her trousers make you look instantly “leggy”, her jackets instantly “cool” and her dresses instantly “sexy”. Job done! So my advice when buying clothes (whatever the brand) is to ask yourself these 5 key questions:

How does it make me feel?

However you want to feel (eg. confident, cool, chic, edgy) choose well and you’ll instantly achieve it through your clothing;

How will it work with my current wardrobe?

A new piece should add new life to your wardrobe. When deciding whether to buy it, think about your existing wardrobe – what will it go with?

Is it versatile?

Saving clothes for “best” makes no sense. Enjoy wearing your clothes every day, in different ways. Look at how you can dress a piece up or down to wear day or night;

Does it flatter my shape?

If it doesn’t suit your figure – you’ll spend an awful lot of time in front of the mirror trying to make it work. Choose clothing that fits well, accentuates the positives and disguises areas you’re less confident with;

Is it comfortable to wear?

If you can only wear an item when you’ve lost 5 lb and purchased 7 inch stilettoes, chances are it won’t be something you wear often – step away – you don’t need it in your life (or your wardrobe).

Remember, it’s never too late to start re-evaluating your wardrobe and creating one you adore. We all deserve a wardrobe of clothes that we love and that make us feel confident, stylish and fabulous. Here are 3 additions I’m coveting for mine, from Amanda’s Autumn/Winter Collection, that do just that.

Have a great week-end and feel free to share this post.
